Essential Apps for Every Explorer
As in all things, technology has made the travel process as easy as pressing a button. There are tons of resources and apps that can help make getting around, booking transportation, translating menus, and more essential tasks so easy! In this blog, I will be outlining and explaining some of the most useful apps for European travel. These apps made the travel process not only easier, but better! I was able to perfectly set up my itineraries in multiple cities, as well as get around with efficiency. It brought me peace and comfort to know that everything was planned out and ready beforehand, with the use of these resources. When you’re a student traveling on a budget like me, there are many apps that can find you low-cost transportation options that’ll give you a bang for your buck! Let’s get started!
-
Skyscanner
- This platform, which is available as a website or mobile app, helps the user find, compare, and book flights, hotels, and rental cars. The search includes dozens of airlines, hotels, and car rental companies, giving you a wide range of options. It simplifies the search process by putting all of these options in one place. I have used Skyscanner multiple times in order to try to find the cheapest travel option.
-
Omio
- Didn’t find the flight you wanted on Skyscanner? Try Omio! I booked DOZENS of times on this platform, since they had train and bus options as well! In Europe, one of the easiest and most convenient ways to travel is by train– making this a great platform to book. In other rural areas, a bus/train might be a great way to experience the landscape on a serene, calm ride. Use Omio to book when Skyscanner doesn’t have what you want!
-
Airbnb
- I’m sure everyone is familiar with this one. Airbnb is a online place where people can connect with hosts for accommodations and homestays throughout the globe. Airbnb is in most countries in the world, making it an option most of the time. Airbnb offers hundreds of options in the world’s most popular cities in Europe (and even the tiny cities!), offering accommodations for every budget. I stayed in some of the most beautiful homes, that really made me feel immersed in my environment. When hotels get a bit too expensive, airbnb can be a great option for budget travel!
-
Bolt, FreeNow, Uber
- If you’re not too sure about public transportation in the city you’re in, ride-sharing might be the easiest way to go. There are several apps that you can use to get a ride, with the availability of each changing when you’re in a certain country. Make sure to always do research about the availability and best option for the place you are traveling to! I have had a greate experience with each of these companies, and would recommend them to anyone!
-
Google Translate
- This is a must-have app if you’re going to a country that doesn’t speak your native language. In the most touristy areas, it can be easy to assume that most people will speak english (and a lot of them do!) but you can’t rely on that in every case. Google translate allows you to translate to dozens of languages from text and even from photos (PERFECT for menus!!).
Those are some of my must-haves for traveling in Europe! Using these can make your traveling experience more simple, which lets you enjoy the experience with confidence that everything is figured out! Let these take out the guesswork and enjoy the ride. I hope these help you with your experience as they did with mine! Thanks for reading! ❤️
